Godello is a grape variety that grows only in the small Valdeorras appellation in Galicia, northwest Spain. Godello is another modern "rescue project" for the world wine industry: by the 1970s the grape was almost extinct, but a couple of enthusiastic defenders captured the world's attention with a striking interpretation, and today it is a major player in Spain's white wine scene. Godello's main characteristics are a richness of fruit and wildflower flavors, and a slightly denser body than the usual common varieties.
